Carole Combs Appointed to State Watershed Advisory Committee

January 26, 2010 - Mike Chrisman, Secretary for Natural Resources, appointed Carole Combs, executive director for Tulare Basin Wildlife Partners (TBWP), to the State Watershed Advisory Committee. This Committee works with the Natural Resources Agency and the Department of Conservation to guide development and implementation of a statewide watershed program. While not a formal member of the Central Valley Joint Venture, the TBWP is considered a critical partner for their conservation efforts within the Tulare Basin.

“Your service will be valuable because of your familiarity with local communities directly involved in the day-to-day management of the State’s watersheds, as well as your knowledge and interest in watershed management issues,” said Chrisman. “Community-based watershed management has and will continue to plan a vital role in protecting our State’s natural resources, particularly with the anticipated changes in climate conditions in California.”

Over the next two years, the 24-member State Watershed Advisory Committee will define and implement the State Watershed Program; establish appropriate authorization for the program; and assist with program efforts to improve the State’s stewardship of natural resources. Ms. Combs is one of two appointments from the Tulare Basin Hydrologic Region; the other is held by Greg Kirkpatrick.
