2008 Farm Bill Guide
The Farm Bill (PDF) is one of the most important tools enacted by Congress for restoring, enhancing, and protecting habitat on private lands. The 2008 Farm Bill authorized approximately $23 billion for a five year period. This publication presents an overview of the Farm Bill and its history, as well as important information on organizations that administer it. Also provided is information on setting priorities, maximizing wildlife benefits, conservation planning, conservation practice standards, performance measurements, and assessments. A resources page provides citations of studies that document the impacts of Farm Bill programs and practices on wildlife.
Audubon California Landowner Stewardship Program
The Landowner Stewardship Program works with private landowners in the Central Valley to conserve and restore wildlife habitat on farms and ranches while preserving or enhancing the economic conditions for agriculture. The program is implemented at a watershed level through demonstration projects that are informed by an adaptive management approach. CARCD's Permitting Guide
The California Association of Resource Conservation District’s offers a “Guide to Watershed Project Permitting”, formerly titled the “Guide to Stream Project Permitting”. The guide is used by Resource Conservation Districts, watershed groups and partners to assist with the basics of the permitting process.
Mosquito Best Management Practices
The Technical Guide to Best Management Practices for Mosquito Control in Managed Wetlands is now available. This document is the result of a collaborative effort by members of the CVJV's Technical Committee Mosquito Working Group. It offers information on habitat management strategies designed to reduce mosquito production in Central Valley managed wetlands and to facilitate greater cooperation among wetland habitat managers and Mosquito and Vector Control Districts.
Resource Conservation Districts
Resource Conservation Districts manage a diversity of resource conservation projects, including soil and water conservation projects, wildlife habitat enhancement and restoration, control of exotic plant species, watershed restoration, and conservation planning.
Wild Farm Alliance
The Wild Farm Alliance (WFA) is comprised of ecological farming advocates who share a concern for the land and its wild and human inhabitants. On their website you will find WFA briefing papers you can download and biodiversity articles that are available to read on line.
Yolo County Resource Conservation District
Bridging agricultural issues with science, education, and government, the RCD is an information network between landowner resource problems and the best solutions. Their website provides links to a variety of landowner resources and shares successful on-the-ground conservation methods. Several guidebooks are offered in pdf versions that are easily downloaded.
